New in 2013…The Healthy Living How To Book Club!
Together we will read and discuss current books that relate to living healthy in mind, body and spirit in an unhealthy world.

First up is Fat Chance, written by Dr. Robert Lustig of “Sugar: The Bitter Truth” fame. Dr. Lustig is an internationally renowned pediatric endocrinologist who has spent the past sixteen years treating childhood obesity and studying the effects of sugar on the central nervous system, metabolism and disease. He is the director of the Weight Assessment for Teen and Child Health Program at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital; a member of UCSF Center for Obesity Assessment, Study and Treatment; as well as a member of the Obesity Task Force of the Endocrine Society.
No scientist has done more in the last fifty years to alert Americans to the potential dangers of sugar in the diet than Dr. Robert Lustig.” ~Gary Taubes, author of Why We Get Fat: And What To Do About It

Bought the book! Looking forward to a collective discussion and making changes in my diet!
Awesome Holly! Get a highlighter too…just started reading myself. Let’s just say my book is quickly turning yellow.
I just finished reading ‘Fat Chance’ and have found the answers I’ve been seeking. There is one question I have and that is: he states that smoothies are not a healthy option in that the blending process breaks down the fibre, preventing it from doing the task it’s supposed to. Anyone have thoughts on this?
Thank you!
What are you making your smoothies with?
I’m so in! Watched a lecture of his online and it was fascinating.
Yay!!! Can’t wait.
I’m in! I plan to order my book in the next day or two…can’t wait!
Awesome Monique!
Just got my book and looking forward to the Book Club!
Looking forward to your input!
Vanessa,
I might be able to save some money on shipping if I order > $25 in books, not to mention one less delivery truck polluting my street, and wondered if you could identify the next book you had in mind for March and April? Thank you in advance.
br,
JB
I haven’t thought that far in advance…do you have a suggestion?
Good Morning Vanessa,
Thank you for the opportunity to contribute a suggestion. I searched around and found a book that sounds interesting. It seemed to have favorable reviews and fit into The Healthy Living How To Book Club theme.
May I suggest Blue Zones: Lessons for Living Longer….? Written by Dan Buettner
br,
Jolyn
Blue Zones is a really interesting book, loved it…
Got it! Let’s do this
I am so totally in! Just purchased my book from amazon.
Yay!
Purchased! Looking forward to it!
Yay!
Ordered via the link
I wasn’t going to do it, but then thought, might as well learn something!
Awesome, we can learn together.
Started reading this book and it is blowing my mind. As for what to read next, what about ‘Why We Get Fat’. Gary Taubes seems to be in the same vein. I just got that book because I’ve heard so much about it. But I am game for anything helpful. I have already lost 37 pounds making the sort of changes recommended here so I am very motivated to continue to fine tune my efforts.
I just finished up The Obesity Epidemic by Zoe Harcombe and got started on Fat Chance yesterday. I’m looking forward to the discussions.
I’m somewhere in the middle of Part V now…great book and thanks Vanessa for the suggestion. Looking forward to the discussions!
Finished reading Lustig’s book. Best book I’ve ever read on health and nutrition. I just hope many people read it and that it gets lots of media attention.
