Barbecue ribs are quite possibly my son B's favorite food. It is super easy to make the sauce and even easier to make the ribs using the low and slow oven method. Plus the house smells amazing all afternoon.
I did a little tweaking to my healthy BBQ Sauce recipe and today's version is new and improved. I make the sauce using my Vitamix, which has a “hot soups” option on the dial. This heats, processes and thickens the sauce in about 5 minutes. If you don't have a Vitamix, no worries, I will give you another option in the recipe below, but also, be sure to sign up for this month's Healthy Living How To Vitamix give away!
Store-bought commercial barbecue sauce is loaded with sugar, corn syrup or its high fructose cousin. Some, so-called healthy versions, use agave to sweeten, but the impact on health is still the same — metabolic disruption. Click here to read more about the differences between sugar, HFCS & agave.
You can avoid the health consequences of sugar by making your own healthy barbecue sauce.
What you do with the sauce is up to you. It's amazing on a bunless baked burger with thick-cut bacon and fried onions. Pulled pork and barbecue sauce go hand in hand. Chicken drummies are dreamy smothered in smoky sauce. And of course, our favorite, low and slow barbecue ribs.
