Today's post is meant for my benefit as much as yours. Our Mr. Coffee Iced Tea Maker has sat under our kitchen sink for some time. Like many kitchen toys, it got used everyday when we first got it and then it was sent to the graveyard. It was resurrected this morning!
The key to drinking more tea is finding one you love. There is only one hot tea I like, Hot Cinnamon Spice made by Caribou Coffee. It is made from black tea, which has been found to have many of the same benefits as green tea. My favorite iced tea is Yogi Green Tea Blueberry Slim Life. I have tried many, many, many variations of green tea and this one by far is my favorite.
Tea can impede the absorption of iron from fruits and vegetables. Adding lemon will counteract this problem. In addition to lemon, I sweeten my tea stevia.
According to Harvard Medical School
Drink a cup of tea a few times a day to absorb antioxidants and other healthful plant compounds. In green-tea drinking cultures, the usual amount is three cups per day. Allow tea to steep for three to five minutes to bring out its catechins. The best way to get the catechins and other flavonoids in tea is to drink it freshly brewed. Decaffeinated, bottled ready-to-drink tea preparations, and instant teas have less of these compounds.
