Do you ever stop and give thought to the chatter in your head?
Did you know, we believe more of what we hear ourselves say than anything else? It's a well-documented fact of human nature!
One of the things I learned, on my healing journey, was to talk back to the negative voices in my head. My inspiration and the expert in the battlefield of the mind, is my friend Joyce. She even wrote a book titled Battlefield of the Mind. Love it!
Never in my life, did I ever stop to pay attention to the thoughts I had swirling around in my head, until I read the book. And I can say it changed my life.
So much so, when I created my 10 Things You Can Do Today (to live healthy in mind, body and spirit in an unhealthy world) list, the foundation upon which I build my health upon, number five is “think and say things on purpose”.
What do you tell yourself?
If you struggle with negative self-talk, then this is for you. From me. With love, of course. It may seem kooky at first, but it works if you implement it.
Go buy yourself a journal, doesn't have to be fancy, but if you like pretty things, get a nice one. I like spiral bound journals best, because they lay nice and flat. While you are at it, buy yourself a set of colorful pens. These are my favorite.
Now, I want you to take the list below and write it out. Ten times. Yes, ten times. Then, keep this journal with you at all times. When you catch yourself thinking negative thoughts about yourself, get out your journal and counter that thought with one of the positives below. Say it out loud and write it down, ten times. Really reinforce it. This takes practice, but it doesn't take long to change the way you think, once you become aware of your thoughts.
- Everything will work out.
- Things will get better.
- I am important.
- I am worthy of great things.
- I am loveable.
- The time is now.
- This too, shall pass.
- I can be who I really am.
- The best is yet to come.
- I am strong.
- I can do this.
