DIY: Sugar Scrub

January 27, 2015 By Vanessa Rae Romero

DIY Sugar Scrub | healthylivinghowto.com

SAY HELLO….to soft supple skin. It's winter here in Minnesnowta and everything is dry dry dry. I've been using this body scrub for a couple months now and not only love how it smells, I love how it makes my skin feel. So soft!

Sugar scrubs exfoliate the skin, help increase blood flow, tighten the pores and promote a healthy gorgeous glow!

This sugar scrub recipe has the added health benefits of Epsom salt…

“Epsom salt is made up of naturally occurring minerals, magnesium, and sulfate, which can help improve health in numerous ways. A lack of magnesium—which helps regulate the activity of more than 300 enzymes in the body—can contribute to high blood pressure, hyperactivity, heart problems and other health issues, doctors warn. Sulfate is essential for many biological processes, helping to flush toxins and helping form proteins in joints, brain tissue, and mucin proteins. Doctors and researchers say that soaking in Epsom salt is a safe, easy way to increase the body's levels of both magnesium and sulfate.” Source: Epsom Salt Council

You can make your own customized sugar scrub. The possibilities are endless. In place of organic sugar, try coconut sugar or even dead sea salt. Not a fan of coconut oil? Give sweet almond oil a try. And of course, the essential oil options are plenty!

DIY Sugar Scrub

Ingredients

  • 1 c. Organic Sugar
  • 1/2 c. Epsom Salt
  • 2/3 c. Coconut Oil
  • 1 Tbsp. Raw Honey
  • Essential Oil (I like Lavender)

Directions

  1. To a large mixing bowl, add sugar, Epsom salt, coconut oil, honey and essential oil.
  2. Using a fork, mash until well combined.
  3. Store in sealed container.

Notes

A little goes a long way! Spread a small amount of body scrub over damp skin. Rub gently in circular motions to slough off dead skin and moisturize, then rinse with warm water.
