With the help of my sister, I hosted a couple's bridal shower for my brother and future sister-in-law this weekend. The guest list was long with both family and friends, expecting 50 people or so. To keep things simple and easy, I decided to do a taco bar.
I was making 10 lbs. of taco meat which meant I needed close to 10 packets of taco seasoning. I have yet to find taco seasoning that does not have MSG, maltodextrin (sugar), starch (gluten ), lactose (milk sugar) or any other unnecessary ingredients. On occasion I have made my own taco seasoning, which is what I decided to do this weekend. And it was super easy and very good! I will never buy packets again.
Recipe is the equivalent to one packet, which is enough for 1 lb. of beef.
Ingredients
- 1 Tbsp. Chili Powder
- 1/4 tsp. Garlic Powder
- 1/4 tsp. Onion Powder
- 1/4 tsp. Crushed Red Pepper Flakes
- 1/4 tsp. Dried Oregano
- 1/2 tsp. Paprika
- 1 1/2 tsp. Ground Cumin
- 1 tsp. Celtic Sea Salt
- 1 tsp. Black Pepper
Directions
- Combine spices in glass dish.
- Sprinkle over cooked meat.
- Stir and serve.
- Enjoy!
Notes
If you make this in a large batch, approximately 3 Tbsp. is what you would use per pound of meat. I do not add any water to the mixture, instead, when draining the meat I reserve about a tablespoon of fat and drizzle that back over the meat along with the seasoning.
